Philanthropic Philosophy
As children, both my husband and I were taught the value of giving back to the community in meaningful ways. So in our personal as well as our business lives we are committed to donations and volunteer work through out our local community as well as national charities.
Each year I choose to donate to several charities that are near and dear to my heart.
Aeromedicos
My in-laws helped to found a group of doctors that travel once a month to Baja Mexico to set up a health clinic where patients are seen by volunteer doctors and nurses. My father in law is a private pilot and until my mother in law passed away in 2002 she was a nurse. For 25 years they have flown down to different villages to see patients and offer free medical treatment. Even while battling ovarian cancer for 11 years Pat did not miss a trip. Now the building they have build in Muleje Mexico has been dedicated to Pat Heintz. If you live in or around Santa Barbara California consider getting involved
The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund I have donated items for volunteer gifts and auction items since 2002 when Pat Heintz, my mother in law, passed away from ovarian cancer. During her 11 year battle with the disease she wore one of my hope charms through chemotherapy, radiation and during many hospital stays. Pat faced the disease with courage and lots and lots of hope. She was a wonderful grandmother to my children and she is dearly missed. Ovarian Cancer is often left undiscovered for too long, learn the warning signs and get checked. Ovarian cancer whispers...so listen.
The Scitechatorium
My daughter attends a small charter school in rural San Luis Obispo, California. At the school we are lucky enough to have an amazing science museum right on the school grounds, which helps to teach the children science based on the hands on approach. As a fundraiser the curator wanted to start a small store in the corner of the museum. Without money the store idea wasn't going anywhere. Amy Peters' Studio donated the opening inventory to create the small store. The store has become a huge hit with students and visitors alike. Now the profits of the store are used for upkeep on the live exhibits, purchasing lab equiptment and is used to restock the store. Since I attend wholesale trade shows, I continue to act as store buyer. All items in the store are science related, the items include: slime, experiment kits, gems and minerals, plastic replicas of bugs, magnets, fossils, computer programs and so much more.
The Hollyrod Foundation
My mother has been living with Parkinson's disease for over 25 years. She was lucky to have been diagnosed early and lives right near Stanford Hospital so she has received expert medical care and ground breaking medication during her battle with the disease. She also has the emotional, physical and financial support of my father. I can't imagine living with Parkinson's disease without any support. Hollyrod foundation role is to give patients the necessary support needed to live with Parkinson's.
